Kings Norton Boys' School Header

Welcome

Welcome to King's Norton Boys' web-site. I am proud to be part of this unique school that achieves the essential balance between academic success and personal development that enables the young people of today to become the successful leaders of tomorrow.

I believe in developing the traditional values that are all too often missing from today's society while still ensuring academic success through the use of the most up to date teaching methods and technologies. I do not believe in artificially inflating results by forcing all students to sit ‘easy’ qualifications to give a false impression of how good the school is. Boys who attend KNBS only work on achieving those qualifications that we and their parents truly believe are in their best interests.

For the past five years we have been able to demonstrate that boys who attend this school are given the opportunity to excel in academic performance. In 2008 we received a national award because the number of boys achieving the higher grades at GCSE was increasing significantly faster than the national average. In the same year the DCSF data showed that, for the value we add to boys learning at year 11, we are in the top 24% of schools nationally. Our Ofsted report for the inspection carried out in October 2008 said that “GCSE standards were significantly above the national average, and students achieve well in Years 10 and 11.”

At King's Norton Boys' however we also aim to develop those things that league tables don't measure; integrity, respect, a sense of morality and self esteem, and give students the opportunities that are not available at all schools. Again, OfSTED said “ Students benefit from the outstanding range of extra-curricular activities, including study support, music and visits abroad. There are also many opportunities in science, enterprise and work related areas. The outstanding outdoor adventure opportunities, such as sailing on ‘Tall Ships’, give students the opportunity to develop the range of skills needed for life. The extra-curricular provision is developing students’ confidence, self-esteem and enjoyment of college.”

OfSTED confirms that behaviour is ‘good’, bullying and racist incidents are rare and that care for students is a positive feature of the school with parents agreeing that their children feel safe. From year seven, right through to our successful sixth form, joining King's Norton Boys' School is a great prospect for both students and staff.
