Welcome
I’m immensely proud to be a part of this unique school that focuses on achieving the highest levels of both academic success and personal development. At King’s Norton Boys’ our aim is to help our young men become the successful leaders of tomorrow.
Caring and Safe
To achieve the above, boys have to want to be here. Our latest Ofsted report said that parents agree that their sons are happy and feel safe in school and that ‘The school provides a very caring environment for the boys.’ Inspectors also said that behaviour is good, bullying and racist incidents are rare and that caring for the students is a positive feature of the school.
Developing Personal Skills
I believe in developing the traditional values that are too often missing in today’s society while at the same time using modern techniques and methodologies to achieve academic excellence. For that reason in a typical week here at KNBS you can find various groups of boys applying to Oxford or Cambridge, rehearsing with the school wind band, returning from the rugby field covered in mud, helping clean and repair the local war graves or supplying residents in the local sheltered housing with produce from our own school allotment. Ofsted said “Many students benefit from the outstanding range of extra-curricular activities, including study support, music and visits abroad. There are also many opportunities in science, enterprise and work related areas. The outstanding outdoor adventure opportunities, such as sailing on a Tall Ship, give students the opportunity to develop a range of skills needed for life. The extra-curricular provision is developing students’ confidence, self-esteem and enjoyment of college.”
Achieving Success
Our academic record is considerably above average. Once again this year our GCSE results that include the essential English and maths are twelve percentage points above the national average for boys. Government figures also prove that we add value; the data shows that we are in the top 24% of schools in the country for the point score our boys achieve compared with national figures. It is clear from the data that we are particularly successful with the most able boys who this year achieved, on average, 13% more than you would expect by national comparison. Sixth form study is another area of success and 2009 saw yet another student gain a place at Cambridge, this time to study maths.
A great place to be
Those who really know the school agree that, whether as a student or a member of staff, King’s Norton Boys’ is a great place to be.
