Key Stage 5
As of September 2017 KNBS no longer admits new students into sixth form. Therefore the current Year 13 group is the final sixth form group to attend KNBS.
We are determined that these students will achieve good results, and be equipped with the skills and knowledge to enable them to move on to their next stage, whether that is university, employment or apprenticeship. To help facilitate this end, we introduced a compulsory period of work experience in the week commencing 11/09/17. The experiences gained from this week will be supported by a PSHE and UCAS application course over the first term and throughout the rest of the year.
In sixth form all students study three or four level three qualifications. Resit maths and English are traditionally offered, but there are no students required to resit either of these in the 2017-18 academic year.
Subjects currently being studied are:
- Biology (A Level)
- Business Studies (BTEC level 3)
- Chemistry (A Level)
- Design Technology (A Level)
- English Literature (A Level)
- Government and Politics (A Level)
- History (A Level)
- ICT (A Level)
- Mathematics (A Level)
- Media Studies (A Level)
- Physical Education (A Level)
- Physics (A Level)
- Sport (Level 3 BTEC)
All subjects are allocated ten hours of teaching time over a fortnight. In addition students have two hours a fortnight PSHE and there are six staffed study periods over the fortnight. Students are expected to enlist in at least three of them, or more if progress indicates that this is required.
In Sixth form KNBS has a reciprocal arrangement with King’s Norton Girls’ School, whereby students from either sixth form can study one or more subjects at the other venue when a subject isn’t offered, or where timetabling prohibits certain combinations. The small number of our students taking advantage of this arrangement are still on roll at KNBS, and they sit all examinations as full members of KNBS sixth form.
